Subject: Professors of the practice, lecturers, and other regular rank non tenure-track faculty

Description: Professors of the practice, lecturers, and other regular rank non-tenure track faculty in Engineering and Arts and Sciences have different roles, rights and responsibilities from the tenured and tenure-track faculty in their departments. For example, teaching often plays a larger role in their job responsibilities and requirements for appointment and promotion. The purpose of the POPs Discussion Group is to provide an opportunity for interested faculty to meet informally to exchange information and to learn from one another's experience. The POPs Discussion Group will sponsor three kinds of activities in which all professors of the practice, lecturers, and other regular rank non-tenure track faculty are welcome to participate:

(1) a mailing list (pops@duke.edu) located at (https://lists.duke.edu/sympa/info/pops), whose purpose is to share helpful information such as relevant departmental by-laws, to communicate any important changes in policies], and to announce events of interest;

(2) regular meetings two or three times a semester, to discuss issues that have arisen in our professional lives related to our status as non-tenure-track faculty and to discuss ways in which we can effectively help each other in addressing them;

(3) an annual or biannual social event.
